Quilt of Valor Award Ceremony for George and Andrew Campbell
April 17, 2021

Today I am representing over 10,000 Quilts of Valor quilters from across the country. I am humbled to be with you, George and Andrew. You are men who have served our country, performed your duty, and fought for the freedoms we enjoy today. We are eternally grateful to you and thank you for your service and sacrifices.

Quilts of Valor was founded in 2003 by Catherine Roberts. She was a mother whose son was deployed in Iraq. She wanted to comfort veterans and soldiers with quilts so that they would know and understand that they were cared for and their efforts were appreciated.

This quilt brings you a three part message from our hearts:

First, your friends are here to witness and honor you and your service. For George this was in the Army in World War 2 and for Andrew the Army National Guard in Iraq.

Next, our quilters know that freedom is not free. The cost of our freedom is the dedication of men and women like you and this quilt is a way to say “Thank You” for your sacrifice.

Finally, this quilt is meant to offer comfort to you and to remind you daily, that you remain in all of our thoughts and our hearts. Each quilt is made by loving hands and given with loving hearts.

A quilt has three layers.

The top with its many colors and shapes represents the communities and the many individuals we all are.
The batting is the center of the quilt and its warmth. It represents our hope that this quilt will bring warmth, comfort and peace to you.
The backing is the strength that supports the other layers. It represents the strength of each of you and the support of your family and friends.
Each stitch that holds these three layers together represents the love and gratitude of the person who made it.

Today, it is my pleasure to award you both with Quilts of Valor. I thank you for your service.

With love from the QOV Stitches of the West Brandywine group.
